Letter from London: The Eighties Revival

I've written quite a long thing about paintings from the 80s here. Above, Andy Warhol taking a picture of Duran Duran. Oh, to be a fly on the wall.

New post: 'Richter Scale'

My new Art21 post, on the Gerhard Richter portraits show at the National Portrait Gallery, is here. Above, the painting 'Lesende' ('Reading'), 1994 (which is in the exhibition).

PS: I know 'Richter Scale' is the most obvious possible heading for an article on Richter (like "Matisse, Matisse, Matisse, Matisse Me Baby" and "Show Me The Monet" and "I'm Gonna Take You To A Degas, Degas, Degas" and "I See A Little Donatello Of A Man"), but, like, that's the point?

New Saatchi online post on Scott Richter

My new post is now up on Saatchi online. It's my top ten of artists' work on the site, with a short piece on my favourite one, Scott Richter. You can read it here. It also features one of the worst pictures of me ever taken, and let me tell you, there are plenty of contenders.

UPDATE: That link seems not to work. Here it is again

New post: 'See you later, contemporary art curator!'

My new post, on the problem with curators and Mark Wallinger's solution to the problem (involving Durer, Joyce and some bits of string), is readable here. Meanwhile, here's a church made out of gorgonzola.

UPDATE! Kind words from the excellent Art Fag City and Bad at Sports.
